CHRIS DRTS I began tattooing in the Fall of 2004, at a small shop in El Paso, TX. Acquiring a haphazard apprenticeship that lasted all of 2 months under a friend who was still an apprentice himself. After staying with him at this shop for a year I moved to a new shop, Sun City Tattoo, this is where I first met Bill Canales. When talking to Bill I understood that I would have to venture outside of El Paso to get better and more efficient in this craft. During the 2 1/2 years at Sun City, I did guest spots and conventions wherever I could. After Sun City I had the opportunity to move to San Antonio, TX and work at Mr. Lucky's Tattoo under the the grit and grind tattoo style of Weldon Lewis. It is here where I feel I had a second and unbelievably more thorough apprenticeship. Mr. Lewis taught me history, application, and how important making a tattoo look like a tattoo is. After working at Mr. Lucky's for the Fall and Winter of 2008, I made one more pit stop at Dandyland Tattoo in San Antonio for a couple of months. I then moved back to El Paso and during this small stint, I found myself doing guest spots at Full Circle Tattoo with Bill. I moved back to San Antonio to help a friend out in opening his shop and continued to guest spot at Full Circle during this time. I can remember every time I would guest spot I would think about how great it would be to become a resident here. As fate would have it, a spot opened up and I got an invitation to be a permanent artist at Full Circle. It's not often that you look forward to going to work everyday, that you're happy about what the day may bring, that you wonder what the guy in the booth next to you will tattoo, because you know no matter what it is you will learn from it.
